Ingredients Breakdown:
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract:
This wonder plant has many anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, particularly beneficial for sore gums. Aloe also helps to dislodge plaque and protect teeth from decay.
Chlorophyllin-Copper Complex:
Chlorophyll is a pigment found in plants that neutralises your mouth’s PH and promotes a healthy oral microbiome. It also inhibits bad breath, by eliminating smells in the mouth and throat. It even works on dogs…and that’s saying something!
Cocamidopropyl Betaine:
Gem use a tiny dose of this gentle cleaning and thickening agent derived from coconut oil, to help give the mouthwash the right consistency. This ingredient is a milder alternative to many of the harsh SLS cleaning agents on the market.
Glycerin:
Gem’s food-grade Glycerin is derived from vegetable oils and is non-GMO. It works as a natural preservative to prevent the ingredients from separating, while also enhancing the natural mint oil flavour.
Maltodextrin:
Naturally derived and made from corn, rice, potato starch or wheat, Maltodextrin is a commonly used, easily-digestible food additive. It can be used to improve the mouth feel of a product, but in our case, it’s simply a minor by-product of the probiotic and only occurs in trace amounts.
Melia Azadirachta (Neem) Leaf Extract:
Neem is a natural herb from the Neem tree that reduces odour-causing bacteria. Additionally, Neem has been proven to fight tooth decay and oral infections and can prevent sore and bleeding gums. Neem is a powerful substance. For this reason, Gem use less than 0.001% Neem to ensure we are providing a level that is safe to humans.
Mentha Viridis (Spearmint) Leaf Oil & Menthol:
These natural ingredients create a minty fresh taste. Not to mention, spearmint is also known to have anti-bacterial properties.
Peppermint Powder (Mentha Piperita) & Flavour:
Gem’s natural Peppermint Powder absorbs and buffs away stains and bacteria that settle on the tooth’s surface. It also gives a fresh minty taste and clean aftertaste, and also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, naturally. While Gem’s natural Peppermint Flavour, made in Australia, helps to boost that minty-fresh feeling.
Polysorbate 20:
This trusty little surfactant and emulsifier has the job of binding together all of our mouthwash ingredients and making sure they stay well blended. It is safer than many other solubilisers out there, having been approved by both the FDA and the CIR panel (Cosmetic Ingredient Review),and is used widely in both food and pharmaceutical products.
Potassium Sorbate:
This odourless, tasteless preservative helps to keep our mouthwash fresher for longer. Gem use the tiniest amount to ensure their mouthwash can stay fresher for longer.
Propolis Extract:
Propolis is a natural substance, collected by honey bees, that inhibits bacterial activity without damaging the oral microbiome. Most importantly, Gem’s propolis is derived in a way that does not damage the bees that produce it.
Sea Salt:
Gem’s natural sea salt comes from the Dead Sea. It has been shown to amplify mouth health by reducing both plaque and bacteria. It is also a natural, gentle abrasive, helping to loosen plaque settling on the tooth’s surface. It even has the ability to heal mouth wounds!
Sodium Benzoate:
This ingredient is used as a preservative. The Gem use is food-grade and helps to balance the mouth’s PH levels, which in turn promotes an anti-bacterial environment.
Water:
Gem use pure water to blend ingredients and give our products the right consistency.
Xylitol:
This corn-derived sweetener has anti-bacterial properties, is non-cariogenic and doesn’t ferment in your mouth to feed tooth decaying bacteria. Importantly, this has the effect of reducing plaque formation and inhibiting enamel demineralisation. By starving the cavity-causing bacteria, acidity inside your mouth is neutralised and saliva flow increases to healthy levels.
